I knew Matt and Morgan’s wedding was going to be a memorable one when I met them a week before their big day at South Mountain for a bridal session. They were so in love, and fun, and just all around great people. They say rain on your wedding day is good luck – in which case, Matt and Morgan are going to have the luckiest, happiest life imaginable (though they would anyway, because their love is awesome). What started out as a beautiful, overcast day, became a thunderous rainstorm just as Morgan was walking down the aisle at The Venue at the Grove in Phoenix. They went with it, and had a romantic ceremony in the rain! Guests were cheering and laughing, as were Morgan and Matt. The rain stopped as they were exchanging the rings (I’m sure there’s a fantastic metaphor in there some where), and they kissed as the sun was peeking through the trees. Cocktail hour was lit by the most fantastic post-storm sunset, complete with yard games and, well, cocktails. While cocktail hour was going on, the staff was rushing to dry off the outdoor reception area that got absolutely soaked during the ceremony. Success! It was dry, and guests took their seats. No more than 5 minutes later, the clouds opened up again and set a downpour on this fantastic group of people. Everyone rushed inside, where they ate cross-legged on the floor, and, after enduring such an event, the tension eased and they all became one big happy family. Eventually the rain stopped for good, and guests went back outside, sat on their wet chair, and had a grand ol’ time. Toasts were memorable, dances were touching, and the party was rocking. All in all, a very memorable day, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
